Presentations – My Turn – Today was my turn to present my research paper. I saw this as a great opportunity to retest my hypothesis. I thought it would be interesting to make the presentation interactive and pose the same questions as were asked in my original Facebook Polls. All of the background to this can be found in my research paper. I was pleased that people decided to join in. Although there were not as many respondents as in my original paper, the results were broadly in line with the findings from my Facebook Polls. For example most people in my polls wanted to remain with their original choice of images and generally found the humanoid robotic art less disturbing than the AI labelled art. Ester was also presenting today. Ester was examining the work of Rob Pruitt and emotions in art. I found her presentation really interesting. Ester noted that my paper and her paper could be potentially linked. This is because examining the emotions found in AI art would be a great next step in her investigations of art and emotion. Meet the Supervisor – Janet Waring Rago Today was an exciting day because we got to meet our supervisor. This will be the person to guide us through the task of compiling our research paper. Jonathan placed us in groups with our respective supervisors. My supervisor is Janet Waring Rago and my group consists of Thomas, Rachael, Sue, Ellie, Jason and me. We had a really good ‘get to know you’ session where we all discussed our projects. What struck me most was a feeling that we are all in this together. As such people were very helpful in bringing their comments and ideas to the table in order to help other students in the group. An interesting link mentioned during the session was Academia.edu, which I intend to check out. Speaking with Janet was very useful and helped me to further narrow my research question. I am really looking forward to working with Janet on my research paper. Updated Zentangle Gallery As usual here is the updated Zentangle Gallery. This continues to build each week as I practice my drawing and mark making.
Playing Catch-Up – Even though I was only away in London for a few days, I feel there is so much that I need to catch up on! I found zoom session 9 on the playlist and managed to watch it all. Julia Flood, librarian at CSM gave a very informative presentation about the library and it’s services that are available to us. This is something that I want to explore further and I will be documenting this as I begin my research journey. I really do want to take full advantage of what the library has to offer as I felt Julia’s talk was very inspiring! In the meantime please see below for my weekly ‘Zentangle’ Design. I felt a little out at sea this week with all of the information about the library. This is why I chose to produce an image of a boat. It certainly brought me back down to Earth in terms that I really do need need do properly conducted research. CSM has access to all kinds of wonderful resources that I really need to explore.
