This final section chronicles the transformative journey I took over the course of my art studies, focusing on my exploration of the intersection between traditional art forms and emerging AI technologies. Initially rooted in macro photography, I felt a deep sense of loss as AI industrialised art began to overshadow traditional art practices. This prompted a shift in my creative approach, leading me to explore generative and hybrid art forms that integrate human, digital, and AI elements.
Throughout my research and practice, I grappled with the ethical and moral implications of AI in the art world. While recognising the potential of AI to democratise artistic expression, I also identified significant concerns regarding the ethical use and impact of AI-generated art. This dual perspective fueled my exploration and culminated in the creation of “The Balance of Power – Unity in Bits,” a mobile art piece symbolising the need for balance between technological advancement and artistic integrity.
My journey included significant projects, such as documenting vibrant graffiti in Barcelona, resulting in 4 self-published books that blended augmented reality, digital art, and AI. Influenced by Alexander Calder, I developed physical mobiles that highlighted the tactile and human aspects of art, contrasting with the impersonal nature of AI-generated works.
The culmination of my work emphasises the importance of understanding and integrating technology without compromising artistic authenticity. My experience on this course has been deeply enriching and transformative, leading to a profound appreciation for the evolving landscape of art and a commitment to fostering a balanced and ethical approach to creativity in the digital age.
Next Steps
Following is list of activity that I would like to complete over the next few months. It is my continuing personal and professional development plan.
* Have a break! Take some time out to catch up family and friends
* Produce promotional materials for my mobile for the end of year show
* Evaluate the response to my mobile and seize any resulting opportunities
* Establish a robust, sustainable, ethical and commercially viable way of producing my mobiles
* Seek out artistic collaborations with some of my work colleagues
* Establish connections with galleries and foster current relationships
* Establish connections with architects with a view to designing mobiles for large spaces
* Sell some mobiles to fund my ongoing work and outbuilding refurbishment (to create a studio space)
* Catch up on any of the online artist talks and progression videos I may have missed and continue to read and research
* Contact the MACBA Museum in Barcelona to discuss any opportunities relating to my MACBA Metamorphosis Books
* Consider a PhD?
Conclusion
In conclusion, my time over the last two years has been nothing short of transformative. It has not only broadened my creative horizons but also challenged me to confront the ethical dilemmas posed by emerging technologies. As I navigated the complexities of AI and its impact on the art world, I discovered new ways to blend traditional and digital mediums, ultimately finding a balance that honours both. This journey has been profoundly enriching, filled with moments of self-discovery and artistic growth. I leave this course with a deep appreciation for the ever-evolving landscape of art and a commitment to continue exploring, creating and evolving in exciting new ways.
