To QR or Not to QR –
After much deliberation I finally settled on the final design for my Grotto Print. The background to this project can be found in the following blogs: Grotto Print Ideas #1, Grotto Print Ideas #2 and lastly Grotto Print Ideas #3.
Initially, I had wanted to add a layer of augmented reality to this project, which would have been very much in keeping with all of my thoughts and aims from Unit 1 and Unit 2. I designed myself an augmented reality QR code to compliment my final clock print design. Unfortunately, although it worked really well for me on my iPhone, there was a problem for Android users. This problem was a country problem namely the U.K. vs U.S. Apparently there are subtle differences between the U.K. Android operating system and the U.S. Android operating system. So sadly my grand vision of having my print augmented with an animated video could not happen on this occasion.
However, I was not to be completely thwarted. I decided that if I could not augment my print with a video, then I would use standard QR code technology to take the user to my art print blog instead. Here the user, can experience all of the hidden elements that are attached to my ‘Sands of Time’ grotto print.
My print is deliberately designed to be so much more than just a print. If you scan the code below then you will be able to click on a link that will take you directly to my art print blog. Here there are videos and paper folding instructions to turn the original Grotto print into either a paper sculpture or two different styles of folded booklet or even a box.
Please use scan the code above with your camera’s smartphone, then click on the link that pops up to see how the original Grotto print below can be turned from something 2d into 3d.
The Grotto Print
Here is my final print below. I’m hoping someone will like it enough to buy it, but I guess I’ll have to wait and see. So far my barcode above, which very cleverly records how many times the QR code has been scanned is currently showing 10 scans. Fingers crossed I make a sale.
