Sunday July 23rd –
I can’t believe it, I’m halfway through the challenge! I’m hardly an augmented reality ‘whiz kid’ but already I’m able to produce interesting animations to hide in the pages of my Barcelona Graffiti book. My plan is to complete the augmentation of this book with augmented reality experiences that become increasingly complex towards the end.
Today was a relatively successful day. I managed to produce the two videos below. The first shows the word ‘Graffiti’ slowly bouncing around the scene. I chose the word graffiti because it is the subject on which my book is based. The second video shows the image slowly scale up when it is tapped on screen. This is the first video where I am exploring different behaviours. At last I’m starting to move into augmenting my book after learning the basics.
What Did I Learn?
I learned that my software definitely won’t support multiple image tracking. It’s actually fine because I have a couple of ideas for a work around. I learned that assigning behaviours is a little more confusing than I originally thought. I also learned how to delete behaviours that had already been assigned. This was easy to do but not as intuitive as I had thought.
What Did I Actually Achieve?
Today I successfully recorded two videos below showing my animation work in augmented reality. I used two images from my Barcelona Graffiti book as target images. I assigned a tap behaviour to the second video which can be seen when the warping image scales up then drops back again. I leave today feeling excited to augment the rest of my book and generate imagery for my third and final book in this series.
Further Developments
As basic experiments I think they work quite well. However I also think that they could be improved. The text could be much more colourful on the first video as it represents graffiti. On the second video the white background could be removed leaving only a twisting pulsating morphing shape. I also chose the music for this song really carefully as the words talk about hidden things and hiding things which I felt was very apt.
I have a long way to go before the whole of the book is complete so these are considerations for when it is complete.
