Experimentation – What does Ai Make of My Designs?
I tried experimenting further with my Chladni kit, but to no avail. Ideally, I would like to video the patterns forming but even getting them to appear is just too difficult at the moment. After speaking with the kit’s maker I realised that actually creating the patterns is a skill that needs to be learned. Indeed it is just like learning the violin and an art form in itself. I hope that with both patience and practice I can improve as I really like working with my kit. When it does work the results are impressive!
I felt that the images created yesterday worked quite well, even though I would have liked to see more patterns. Therefore, as I continue to perfect my bowing technique I wondered what Ai would make of my designs so far? In my previous post I used Ai to generate images from the text prompt: ‘Chladni Patterns’. Today I am moving it a stage further and I am giving the Ai a starting image and asking it to generate variations.
I actually found the results to be interesting. Below you can see my starting images and four Ai generated images from my original image.
Ai Remixed Chladni Patterns
The resulting images above have an unusual almost ethereal quality about them. For this reason I decided that it might be nice to edit these images to ‘tidy’ them a little and see what happens. Below I have chosen four of my favourite Ai generated images and edited them. I have included the original Ai generation in a slider so that it is possible to see before and after the editing.
The colours and the style of the Ai generated images remind me of cave paintings. It is not the actual image, but the colours. The orange and burnt umber tones remind me of something very primal. To me, they look like something that a cave man might have daubed on a cave wall. Perhaps there is mileage in exploring this further? However at the moment I am intrigued by the idea that the Ai remixed versions also look like a corruption of the base image. They are very interesting corruptions and in some sense do still have a sense of beauty about them.

I produced the following two videos to showcase the edited Ai remixed Chladni plate images. However I decided to use two very distinct styles for the ending. The first video is edited deliberately in a creepy style using a fisheye filter with appropriate ‘spooky’ music. The second video is a slower more considered edit which show cases the imagery in a more artistic style. My thoughts on this are that just as with anything, how the subject is received can largely depend upon how it is presented.
