AI and (3 Minute Video) Affirmative Feedback –
I cannot believe that this is the penultimate zoom session of this year! I was really excited today because my three minute video was used as a test for the start of the crit sessions. I was really pleased with the comments because I can now use these to help inform my work going forward. I was quite nervous at how my video would be received, but I think on the whole, judging by the comments, it wasn’t so bad 🙂
As an extra form of feedback called ‘Affirmative Feedback’, everyone was asked to respond to the sentence: “What worked for me is…” The other respondents were then invited to agree or disagree with this by giving a thumbs up on the recorded session from today. I am including a link to this week’s video as peoples’ comments and reactions will again be useful in helping to inform my work going forward.
Please see below for the comments:
A Useful Graphic
The following graphic posted by Bea, is useful when considering the critiquing process.
Playing with AI text to Image Generation
For the rest of the session we went into small groups (Donald, Bea and Emma and me, I hope I haven’t missed anyone) and then I helped the group to generate some images with AI. We decided to choose a couple of words each to feed into an AI text to image generator. The string of words that we chose were as follows: ‘hairbrush, tangled up, penguin, orange tree, green leaves, dust catcher, and a stain’.
Below are the images which came from the above text prompt.
Changing The Prompt
I think that we were a little disappointed that not all of the elements in the prompt were incorporated into the output. However, I think on the whole people did like the output. So, we decided that we would try another prompt. This time we wanted to see if we could replicate one of Emma’s prints. We used a descriptive prompt as follows: ‘a house with red roof, on a bay, seen from the water, overcast day with a forest’. The only difference this time and I think it is clear from the output, that the latter two images were requested in the style of an oil painting.
A Selection of Slides
Towards the end of the session we discussed a selection of slides. I think that these slides are a very good way to look at AI generated art.
Updated Zentangle Gallery
Unfortunately, I’ve started to fall behind a little with my Zentangle drawings. However, I’m optimistic that I’ll be able to catch these up over the Christmas period. Therefore, even though the gallery isn’t up to date this week, the intention will be that this will be caught up soon.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed today’s session and after having participated in a number of quiet critiques over the years, I found the ‘Affirmative Feedback’ a really positive approach. It is definitely one of the best approaches to critique that I’ve ever seen. I came away feeling very positive. I will be analysing everything that was said and written and using this to help improve my work. I’m really excited to see everyone’s videos next week! 🙂
